Visit of the Trade delegation from Central African Republic

SGC – Switchgear Company invited the Trade delegation of the Central African Republic from the electricity company ENERCA last week.

The reason for the visit is the possible cooperation, in the footsteps of the successful project in Moundou (Chad), between SGC -SwitchGear Company and ENERCA.

SGC – Switchgear Company can say that we’re innovator in the development of energy security installations that comply with Sahel standards.

Moreover, our medium voltage switchgear are built to last and can withstand the extreme weather conditions (temperatures > 40 °C).

Our sales expert, for the Sahel region in particular, Frank Claeys, welcomed the delegation and organized a company visit on our site in Landegem, including a tour through our production facilities and museum.

But we even saw it bigger, not only on the level of energy supply, but also in helping them with solutions to their needs.

On Thursday 18 November, the delegation was invited to the town council of Deinze. The Mayor Jan Vermeulen, Filip Vervaeke, alderman for local economy and Yannic Demeyer, coordinator of Deinze Industrie vzw welcomed the delegation in the town house.

The purpose of the visit is to explore the possibility of partnerships with the city of Deinze or with Belgian companies that also trade with the Central African Republic or Chad.

The program included a reception at the Leiespiegel service centre and a site visit on Blue Bike.

SGC DF-2 switchgear installation by NHP Australia

DF-2-air insulated switchgear successfully installed in Queensland by reseller NHP

DF-2-air insulated switchgear successfully installed in Queensland (Austrialia) by our reseller NHP

Check out the case study from our reseller NHP

NHP was proud to assist in upgrading the Oxley Creek Sewage Treatment Plant in South East Queensland for flood resilience and optimising operations with a healthy and efficient electrical design.

The Solution: DF-2-air insulated switchgear module with built-in arc quenching system ‘Arc Killer’

The project included decommissioning the original high-voltage switchroom and the 11kV main switchboard for the site, and replacing it with a new main 11kV switchboard contained within a demountable building. The building was also raised 30cm above the 2011 peak flood line levels.

Within the switchroom, NHP specified the DF-2 air-insulated switchgear module with demountable vacuum circuit breakers and a remote operation functionality. Exclusive to NHP switchgear, the cubicles were specifically designed to minimise the consequences of an internal arc and forming a key component of this, is a built-in arc quenching system “arc killer”, which can extinguish an arc in less than 50ms.

“NHP were able to design, supply and install a solution for Queensland Urban Utilities that not only meets local requirements, but delivers an advanced technology which only NHP offers to the market.”

Turnkey cabling with 3D design software

Innovation and care for the environment are the driving forces behind our products and our company. Many of our products are developed based on co-engineering with our customers.

We are happy to take you behind the scenes of how we optimize our production processes continuously. For example, we invested in a Komax cable machine, an automation solution for wire assembly.

Cabling via 3D engineering

Komax cuts, strips and labels each wire.

Production Manager Amédée Mouton: “The Komax is a machine that cuts, strips, crimps and labels electrical wires. Our panel builders receive a custom wire, which saves them on numerous preparatory tasks: cutting wire to size, exposing copper, crimping cable shoes, labeling… A lot less manual work and time savings so that they do not have to look at the plan every time to check to see which wire should be where. This allows our craftsmen to use their knowledge and practical experience for what really counts and think along with the engineers about a design, rather than cutting wires to size.”

Wire confection: the advantages at a glance

  • Faster cabling in the workshop and avoiding errors.
  • Economic just-in-time production from a batch of 1.
  • Wire sorting in the correct order for the follow-up process.
  • Shorter lead times and better quality.

Machine controlled by 3D design software

Yvan Lammens: “The data that the Komax needs comes directly from our electrical CAD software to define the cable lists, lengths of the wires, the connection points,…. Each thread is custom-made and marked with a start and end point. We can provide wires up to 6 mm² with this machine (10 mm² is possible with adjustment). Worldwide there are at most three that offer this.”

Project?

For a substation of SNE in Chad, contractor Deba opted for SGC’s DF-2 program. All our products are built to last and meet the highest technical standards. The DF-2 line is specially designed to function properly in exceptional environmental conditions. For example, the metal-enclosed air-insulated medium voltage cubicles can withstand extreme heat. Ideal for the steppe climate of the Sahel region, where temperatures can rise to 50 degrees.

Not only for these reasons, Deba opted for the DF-2 medium voltage switchgear from SGC. But also for the modular concept where the combination of cubicles is unlimited. Very complex diagrams of distribution and transformer switchgear can be compiled through this extensive spectrum of possibilities. For this project, a medium voltage substation was designed and assembled in collaboration with Deba and CUSTOMIZED to the needs of the end customer SNE (Société Nationale D‘Électricité)

Type of security cubicles?

The cubicles can be equipped with the most diverse and wide-ranging options. The customer chose cubicles of the type DF-D/EDN: protection cubicle with vacuum circuit breaker, block current transformers and equipped with a MICOM relay from General Electric at the request of the client, because they have experience with it. The relay will be programmed here by the end customer according to the selectivity study of the network in Moundou during the FAT study.

Why choose the container solution?

DF-2 medium voltage cubicles pre-tested, installed and wired in a container. A fast, cost-efficient and reliable medium voltage solution. This is the reference project and trendsetter for sustainable substations supported by FIT (Flanders Investment and Trade). We expect similar projects to be required for the expansion of the installed capacity in Chad. In fact, they have an acute shortage of generation capacity out there.
