Reference project for container solutions SNE Chad
We are proud of our new CX-2 Power Container realization (container solution) for the customer SNE (Société Nationale d’ Électricité) responsible for the production, transport and distribution of Electricity in Chad.
Thanks to our many years of expertise, today we also export installations: to Africa, Asia, South America to the Middle East. This is how we developed the CX-2 concept. A pre-installed medium voltage solution in a container, Tailored to the customer’s needs.
Project?
SGC’ s DF-2 medium voltage board and distribution transformers from Cotrabel.
Two containers were provided for the installation of the medium voltage board. One 40-foot container for the protection cells and one 20-foot container for the peripheral equipment. These are single-use shipping containers that were reworked into substations for this project. For example, doors and lighting were installed in the containers and insulation boards were added to the side walls. The containers are in white because it best reflects sunlight, and the cooling of the containers is also designed to be efficient in environments up to 50 degrees. After the installation of the medium-voltage cells, the containers will go into transport. Next, these containers will be set up on concrete piles in Moundou, Chad.
Biggest advantage of a container solution?
It is a turn-key solution. All connections and assemblies are ready to get started right away!
The transition to F-gas-free (SF-6 free) medium-voltage switchgear
SF-6 (F-GASES) FREE
Moving to SF₆-free (all F-gasses) medium-voltage switchgear systems
Europe is strongly committed to more sustainable energy solutions. EU Regulation 2024/573 takes an important step toward phasing out SF₆ in medium-voltage switchgear. This new regulation accelerates the transition to technologies that deliver the same performance but with a much smaller environmental impact.
Why SF₆ is under pressure
SF₆ has been used for many years in electrical installations because of its excellent insulating and arc extinguishing properties. Its disadvantage is its heavy environmental impact. SF₆ is one of the most powerful greenhouse gases known. It remains in the atmosphere for thousands of years and has an extremely high warming factor compared to CO₂.
For this reason, the European Union is deliberately choosing to phase out this gas and encourage alternatives that are more in line with climate goals.
To whom are these regulations relevant?
The impact of this regulation is broad. It applies to:
manufacturers of medium and high voltage switchgear
installers and maintenance partners
industrial and power companies
distribution and transmission system operators
Anyone involved in the design, purchase, operation or maintenance of medium-voltage facilities must take this into account today.
Ready for the future
Phasing out SF₆ requires a different way of thinking about medium voltage. Those investing in SF₆-free technology today are choosing not only compliance, but also sustainability and long-term security.
The move to SF₆-free switchgear is no longer a distant future, but a concrete reality. Making the right choices now will keep your infrastructure reliable, legally compliant and ready for the next generation of energy supply.

What specifically will change as a result of EU Regulation 2024/573
The regulation imposes clear limits on the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases in electrical installations. For medium voltage, this means a phased phase-out, with clear deadlines.
From 01 01 2026, new medium-voltage switchgear up to and including 24 kV may no longer operate with SF₆ or other F-gases for insulation or arc quenching.
From 01 01 2030, this prohibition will be extended to installations above 24 kV up to and including 52 kV.
In addition, as of 01 01 2035, the use of SF₆ in maintenance and repairs is prohibited, except when the gas is recycled or when there is a technical or emergency situation.
Alternatives without SF₆
Meanwhile, technology is not standing still. Reliable solutions exist today that completely replace SF₆ without sacrificing safety or performance.
Examples include clean gas solutions based on air or natural gas mixtures, solid insulation materials such as polymers or ceramics, and vacuum technology for switching itself. These systems are low-maintenance, future-proof and comply with new regulations.
More and more manufacturers now offer fully SF₆-free medium-voltage solutions for primary and secondary distribution.

Smart MV Switchgear for Safer and Smarter Grids
Smart MV Switchgear for Safer and Smarter Grids
Digital Monitoring of MV Substations
Role of Sensors
Sensoren detecteren zelfs minimale afwijkingen.
Connectivity, Data Transfer and Storage
Real-Time Visualization
Analysis and Intelligence
